The advanced search page appears to be the most troublesome type of search, where many users wonder if it is too complex to use easily. In reality the screen offers the chance to do several restrictions at once and will save time by targeting specifically what you want to do. Here are a few of the options that are featured within advanced search:

Selecting available collections - If you have browsed by collection, you may want to select more than one collection to keyword search at one time. [more info]
Choosing how to handle keywords - If you type in one more than one search keyword, you can specify how the search engine finds those words. [more info]
Choosing a specific field to search - If you know that the search keywords are part of a person's name or a place name, you can identify a particular field to search. [more info]
