The My Favorites tool is a
long-term way to find and hold specific items in the Digital Library of
Appalachia for future reference. If you see an item in a
results list or view its
individual record, you may select that item to include on the My Favorites
page. Each PC browser can contain a different list of My Favorites.
You may add up to 100 items per My Favorites list per PC.
To select a record to include in
My Favorites, perform any type of search which finds results.

From your results list,
you may click and add a checkmark next to the record.

Then click on the
 button beneath the
results list. |
From one individual record,
you may click on the button
in the lower left corner of your screen.

You will see a confirmation
that your item has been saved:

Click OK and continue browsing, if you choose.
(Yes! You may close your browser and return at a later time.)

When you are finished
selecting favorites, you may view the favorites page in two ways:

Click on the button at the
top of any results page.

The My Favorites page will contain the selected
items with their records from the Digital Library of Appalachia. The page
looks very much like a results page from a search:

The default page view is the thumbnails view.
Here are a few of the options that are featured
within My Favorites:
- Compare items - If the items are the
same item type (for example, .JPG to .JPG), you may select their numbers from
the results list and click the button to compare the items to each other.
A new window will open that will compare the items. [see
larger example] If an item is unavailable for comparison, the number
will be gray and unavailable.
- Remove / Move - You may adjust the
existing items on your My Favorites page. Click on the number from the
results list and remove (delete) or move the item to another location in the
list. Removing or moving them here only affects your PC's My Favorites
page, not the entire Digital Library of Appalachia.
- Save as an HTML Page - You may save
the page locally by following the directions.
The My Favorites tool allows you to quickly sort and create a customized list
of items and records for use with websites, for use in computerized presentations,
and for reference when you are not connected to the Internet.
