After you have searched and retrieved results from the Digital Library of Appalachia, you may selectively view one record. The easiest way to view one record is by clicking the title of the record from a results page:

The title will highlight in red when you move your mouse over it.
The record opens in a full-screen mode for that item. A content item is the physical object that has been digitized by the Digital Library collection participants. Each record in the Digital Library contains an image or clip for the item, one item per one record.

containing compound documents, the content is
displayed differently: |
Below the content item (or the link to the content item, excluding compound documents), the record contains several descriptive fields which will help you understand the item in context to Appalachia.
They include a creator/author (if applicable), a title for the item, the collection which holds the item, and the broad Digital Library of Appalachia category in which the item exists.
Where there are hyperlinks in the descriptive record, you may click on the links to perform a new search on that specific keyword, person, or category.
You may also use fields in advanced searches to target specific content in the Digital Library of Appalachia.
Below the descriptive fields,
there are several options:

You may go back to the search results, add the
record as a favorite, or zoom and pan for certain
images.

When you zoom and pan, a new window opens and
you may use its options to look at details of the image.
